If the unit was able to preserve stereo separation (ie 2 inputs delivered to left/right in the phones), you could just take the one channel from the phones output (via adapters) and only patch that to the headphones. (The x32 for example or many of the MOTU units.) However, some are very simple and really only give you a global wet/dry mix knob. Some interfaces have nearly DAW-like mixers built in for their cuemix. you should always check your manual for suitable voltages/impedance of anything connected to the rear outputs of your Scarlett. It's a bit of a workaround, but if you have a small amp with headphone OUT it might be worth a try. That way presumably you could monitor either channel separately, and still control the level of your headphones. So, using Stereo mode, you'd be identifying the mic channel's out on the back of your Scarlett, then plugging that into a small amplifier, and using it to run your headphones. What you could do If you really have to monitor the mic channel only with your current equipment is to do as above using Stereo mode, and once you have the signals separated at the rear OUTs - take the mic channel's OUT (from the back of your Scarlett) into another amplifier that has a Phones OUT to connect your headphones to. However, that would likely lead to the powered monitor's sound being recorded through your mic. and then plug an active monitor into only one of the outputs on the back (see user manual).

The only way around it I can think of is to try (I don't have a Scarlett 2i4, so I'm partly guessing) using the STEREO setting (which apparently splits the two channels for monitoring).
